Folk Marathon, as a grassroots event, has the following simple organisational / social structure:

Local Team

Each Folk Marathon is organised by a local team, in the town / city where Folk Marathon happens in a given year.

The local team needs to spend a lot of amazing work and planning and discussions during the months before Folk Marathon actually happens, to safeguard everything important is catered for. In particular, it cares for the infrastructure (venues, accomodation, timetable, finances, technical support, info etc.), so that Folk Marathon is able to happen in a well-organised, welcoming, safe and often surprising environment that perfectly fits into the spirit of the town / city, so the magic is able to happen. ;)

Participants

All the workshops, concerts and dances are led by participants on a voluntary base (donations possible).

Participants will also be volunteering, in an organised way, but also just by a responsible spirit of togetherness. Together with the local team it's the participants' responsibility that everything runs smoothly and everyone may feel welcome and happy.

Committee

The Folk Marathon Committee consists of members of local teams who have already organized Folk Marathon in former years. It serves an important function to safeguard community and to hand over experiences and best practices. It stays in contact with future and past teams, takes a well informed decision where the next Folk Marathon will happen and also provides a central communication hub for the Folk Marathon community, for instance by sending out the Folk Marathon newsletter.
